Approximately a year ago we were preparing the final requirements for the amazing wedding of Steph and Mike.
In the current climate of moving early summer 2020 weddings due to the Coronavirus, we thought it was a positive thing to do to reflect on one of our brides special day this time last year.
Steph, Mike and their families were such lovely people to work with and we hit it off straight away. Their farm setting on a fairly steep hill made for awesome views. And the fact that at the top of one of those hills there was a perfect size flat plateau for a marquee, made it a dream wedding marquee site. As soon as I saw it I thought that it was a perfect site for a pole marquee. The site and landscape was vast and I knew our tall pole marquee would look stunning there. The site was accessed across another field which could have posed problems if it was wet, however we took comfort from the fact that the site could be accessed from a suppliers entrance to the field, but also a guest way in. This is something we always like to advise so that even if some disturbance was made of the field in the prep (not just us but all the comings and going necessary before the wedding) it wouldn’t cause problems on the day or detract from the looks. As it turned out the weather was lovely and dry. So we didn’t need the tractor tow that was waiting for us just in case – thanks to Steph’s dad for the offer!

All of the people we used for our wedding were relatively local to us, some even family friends, as this was very important to us. We got married on 25th May 2019 at St Felix Church, Felixkirk and then an amazing marquee at my parents farm. The position of the marquee was particularly important to us as it looked over Pencil, which is where we got engaged.
Everyone that was involved in the planning and in holding our wedding were amazing and all were so helpful and clearly knew their trade well. Mike and I aren’t flashy people so having a down to earth wedding was really important to us and we were all about having the best time with our family and friends, rather than it being flashy, but that being said, all of our suppliers had the highest quality things.
One of the best parts of our wedding was dressing the marquee and it turned out exactly as I had imagined!! I loved that we could add extra bits to the marquee if we wanted to, but also that they weren’t pushy about this and just allowed us to make our own decisions. It was hard work getting the farm ready for the big day, but this made it all extra special and we had a lot of fun doing it.
My top tip to any bride planning their wedding is to not sweat the small stuff. If you have a vision or idea in your head then go with it and try not to worry too much about what other people will think as your guests will just enjoy being there to celebrate with you regardless. My other top tip would be for the Bride & Groom to take a few minutes time out at some point in the evening on their own. Mike and I sat on a hill looking down on our marquee to take it all in and just listen to our guests having an amazing time, we didn’t stay there long as we didn’t want to miss out on the party, but both of us really valued doing this. Most of all – enjoy it!! From the proposal, through to the planning and the clear up afterwards, it will go in a flash!!
